In our contemporary media-driven society, the representation of disability and effective communication surrounding it are more critical than ever. Acknowledging this, the Council has expanded its engagement with the media to amplify awareness of disability-related issues, the amended Persons with Disabilities Act of 2020, the Council's functions, and the potential impact of rationalization on disability inclusion and development in the nation.
Uganda Bureau of Statistics organised a breakfast meeting with civil society organisations, local government and the public sector to go over the upcoming Uganda National Household Census running from 10th May – 19th May 2024. The meeting expressed the expectation that civil society especially organisations and representatives of persons with disabilities rally their constituents in the public to ensure that they participate in the exercise and are counted.
The Professional Fellows Program on Inclusive Civic Engagement is back, and taking place in spring 2025.
It is a prestigious five-week educational and cultural exchange fellowship funded by the US Department of State and implemented by the Institute for Community Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and the African Disability Forum.
The program aims to support disability leaders from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Ethiopia in exchanging and implementing best practices for inclusive civic engagement.
